About Ethiopian Meskel Meskel is one of Ethiopian most important religious celebration.it commemorates the discovery of the true Cross by Empress Helena,according to Ethiopian Orthodox Christian tradition.the celebration is marked by colourful gatherings,singing,dancing,and the lighting of a large bonfire called "Demera" the chibo (torch, wooden bundle) is lit as part of the Demera ceremony.the fire symbolizes the light and joy associated with the discovery of the true Cross,and people gather around it to celebrate and pray. Meskel is celebrated every year on September 27 in Ethiopia.
